Some Americans have a feeling that what happens outside the US isn't of their concern, unless it warrants sending troops, then they discover new places on the map. They don't see the problems the Euro has as effecting them.
As for the Euro, here's a comment from a leading UK financier. "These people can hardly decide what to have for lunch. So thinking they could manage a currency was absurd." Or words to that effect and he's been proved right. Even when facing the Abyss of melt down every one is looking out for his own concern.
