The Blackberry OS does full encryption of all content storage areas of the phone. Address Book, Texts, Photos and Videos and All files to the Media Card. It's all encrypted.
I can press the left option key and the phone locks down and will only accept 6 attempts at password entry. Then it wipes itself.
This however does not protect you from carrier lawful intercepts, so don't talk about anything via SMS that you don't want permanently stored at your carrier.
If I need to talk about something sensitive I pull up CryptoCat in my mobile browser and advise my contact to do the same. It allows you to cat in near-real time with one time use crypto keys as well.
As to the vulnerability that was found for Blackberry Encryption by AccessData: Your Blackberry is only vulnerable if you did not select "encrypt data with device key + password" and only selected to "encrypt data with password".
