yeah while some people that are attracted are generally kooks, most are (initially) rational, successful, professional types looking for self-improvement or because they have a spiritual bent and are seekers.
usually the kook types are shown the door but the professionals are cultivated and groomed because they have money, organizational abilities and their membership gives validity to the cult.
of course in the end they end up broken financially and mentally.
