American beaten up in Eastern Europe blogs about it
Former Sacramento resident Robert Taylor, a tourist visiting his new wife in Romania, has alerted the U.S. Embassy that he was beaten and kicked by members of a contract police force who yelled anti-American epithets.
Now the embassy in Bucharest is watching the Taylor case to ensure that he receives due process under Romanian law, a State Department official in Washington, D.C., said this week.
Taylor, 32, said he fears for his own safety and that of his 24-year-old wife, Helga Sipos-Taylor, a Romanian citizen of Hungarian ethnicity and fifth-year medical student at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Targu-Mures, about 400 miles northwest of Bucharest.
