With hackers there is no such thing as a deterrent. Law enforcement officials know this.

The personality construct that makes a person a good hacker is one that doesn't adhere to rigid lines of thought, rules or laws. What would be an obstacle to the general public is merely a challenge to code around.

Those arrested will take the deal simply because it gives them the opportunity to do what they are doing now with virtually unlimited resources and general immunity. It's a license to run amok - a dream to some hackers.

No doubt the ones who were "caught" were profiled and analysed as to their potential for compliance and malleability (I use those terms very loosely).

So while those who don't know how these things work are busy applauding law enforcement for catching these "criminals", the reality is that these very same "criminals" will end up joining the first line of defense against Chinese and Middle Eastern hackers in a cyberwar that is just beginning to heat up.
