Or he could go with someone who has to use an alias like "Alex Ferrier" to get customers because he has trashed his reputation so severely.
Anyway, Securedservers is ok if you can manage your own server. Sure it's cheap but they don't always know what they're doing. I had one of my small servers offline for 18 hours or so because they insisted an issue was on my end.
After a little back and forth with them I got a reply:

We have had our engineers test your network and there are no issues which could be affecting you at the moment. We have also tested our security scripts and your network is not being restricted in any form. The gateway for this IP range (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) pings perfectly fine which tells us the network side is performing as expected. You state you have flushed the iptables, so they should not be an issue as far as blocking the connectivity test. Beyond this, we suspect a possible configuration issue - please make sure you have programmed the IP addresses to the correct interfaces - public IP addresses should be assigned to the eth1 interface and the private backend IP should be assigned to eth0. Unfortunately, Secured Servers does not provide any managed services and therefore cannot assist in ensuring proper configuration. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

When I said: "This looks like a physical media problem as I can ping the eth1 address internally but not externally, nor can I ping the default router internally, so it looks more likely to be the cable or the port on the switch."
There was finally some real checking done and they responded with:

Thank you for your patience. We've discovered an issue on the network that was preventing your server from being online. This has since been resolved and your server is back online. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and please let us know if you have any questions.

Again, secured servers is ok but this little incident wrecked any confidence I had in them. I haven't had any other issues with the server before or after this incident. I'll still probably move whenever the opportunity presents itself. I definitely won't be moving anything that matters to secured servers.
That said, I'd love to hear the full story on this. I bet there's a LOT more going on than the OP would have us believe.
