Still works and makes sales for me and the blogs work well to boost SEO for my main sites. But you're right, there's a lot that needs work over there and a couple of us have offered to code and pay to get some of those things back with no response..
Even so, I don't know of a better free host option, especially now that Blogger is deleting 'adult blogs that make money'. That could have been an awesome adult blog host..
