Crime in the CAPITAL CITY is very low, similar to first world cities.
However in the suburbs Of Buenos Aires you have many shanty towns (similar to FAVELAS in BRAZIL) and the CRIME IS RIDICOLOUS HIGH in the suburbs, even in pretty nice UPTOWN areas like San Isidro, OLIVOS, MARTINEZ, because criminals can move freely, because POLICE is AFRAID of criminals.. You have many "BRONX" AREAS...
In the provinces of Argentina, its completely another WORLD.. you can leave your bike in the street and nobody is going to steal it... BUT, the majority of tourist that come to Argentina are mainly visiting Buenos Aires.. so...
Our current Government protects criminals and if a 17 year old kills a whole family, rapes and violates their daughter and steals his money, he won't go to prison...
If a 25 year old criminal kills 3 rich guys and steal his money, he could at max face 5-10 years prison, BUT he will go out in 2 years, because of good behaving in PRISON and because our JUDGES are always in favour of criminals.
Definitely, this fucking government we have had for 10 years now, is the worst thing that could happen to us.
Even if you live in a box and don't out to streets, I can say that it has DAMAGE our business too, I mean to internet working people or entrepeneurs.. We cant import things, we cant buy dollars.. we cant go to another country and GET dollars from the ATMs because they put restrictions... A lot of DAMAGE.
When a criminal kills a good guy, everyone supporting this government says in the news: "poor guy, he didnt' know what he was doing... We forgive him.. he comes from a very hard chilhood, he doesn't deserve to go to prison, he is the consequence of the whole society"...
do you remember DETROIT in the movie ROBOCOP?? Well.. that is what happens in the suburbs of Buenos Aires right now, every single day.
If you come to Buenos Aires, always stay in the Capital City, you won't have any problems.
