I try to have 10-20 outgoing links to my other related niche blogs at most and maybe 5 of those outgoing links to other people's sites if I get an equal or better trade using linkspun or similar. Also, on my Thumblogger blogs, I put a shared box on most of them and I put links to my blogs that I want indexed faster or just better PR in the shared box to show on them all instantly. This brings those linked sites to a PR2 in a week.
(You can do the same thing with 2-5 backlinks by changing the footer.php in each template used using WP or WPMU..)

With good handwritten blogs that you want to do better, try making a handful of quick blogs with the same niche and just one way link those to your better blogs and link wheel those feeders to themselves and do usual ping and directory submission. (Keeping a list of good high PR adult blog directories that don't need recips is very helpful for these, especially the ones that don't have a submit limit. Hard to find, though)

I also use bulkping.com for backlinks on new blogs to index faster. Since it takes a while and you can only have one instance of it running at a time per browser, I open it in FF, IE and Chrome with 3 different blogs and let it run every night..



Hard to say since I promote so many affiliates. As far as FHG ratios, I'd guess the average is around 1:800ish
