Many shows/movies that are pimped for the "child" age group are very much adult content, but they have "children" as the primary characters.
Glee, on television, is something I typically don't even want my 17 year old watching. The musical aspect of it is nice, but the soap opera aspect of it and the points they try to push are way over the top for public television.
I've read the 3 Hunger Games books and there's a definite subtext to the stories; However, the stories were aimed at the teen demographic.
I honestly felt that my mind envisioned a much more graphic portrayal than the movie even got close to and I applaud them for that. It could have been a MAJOR bloodbath, but then they wouldn't have gotten their PG-13 rating.
People shouldn't be addressing how the story is so violent, rather they should be more worried about how a society devolved into such a state and decry that. The greatest way to get people to submit to the will of oppressors is to instill the proper amount of fear. Using kids as the gladiators seems like a very effective way to achieve such means.
