Exactly. Georgian army has attacked Russian peace keepers in Ossetia (many of them were killed). This is a direct declaration of war on Russia. So what Russia should do in such a situation? Stay aside a watch as its soldiers being killed? No one country in the world would act this way. Thus Russian military forces had the only way to go. The way to the Georgia. Is there anybody who believe it was unfair/unreasonable?
As about the quoted part. Putin wasn't Russian president in 2008. So all the sentence has no sense
