It sounds like the superintendent is saying she was not fired for organizing a fundraiser, but for spending class time engaging in activism rather than teaching. If she had been sleeping through classes she could have been fired.
As an English and journalism teacher, she had the kids writing about the murder of Trayvon Martin, who called himself "No Limit Nigga" and apparently that was okay - English class is for writing. Apparently it was when her classes stopped having anything to do with the subject she was supposed to be teaching that there was an issue.
