No, I don't miss anything, but you do. Russian peace keepers came into Ossetia according to the agreement with Georgia. I.e. Georgia has officially invited them in 1992 and then attacked them in 2008.
As about the US planes in the Iraqi sky, so they were invaders (Iraq didn't asked them to patrol the sky). What do you think will be with the US plane it it decide to "patrol" the Chinese or Russian sky? I tell you the secret: the plane will be shot down and it will be right. The same will do the US air-defense to the Chinese or Russian plane, and it also will be right.
So please DO NOT compare the situation in Ossetia with situation in Iraq. The USA army was an aggressor, Russian peace keepers - weren't.
