How was it illegal? Basically, Iraq got bitch smacked by the US military (and others). When I say "bitch smacked" I mean "they got pummeled into the ground so quickly it was a huge embarrassment". At this point, the US could have dictated any terms it wanted to. The United States could have (and perhaps should have) disarmed the entire country. It's not like it hasn't been done before in history (namely with Germany).
Once you get to the point where bullets are flying, International law goes right out the fucking window.
