It has been my experience that it's a grave mistake to stop eating all together. Not only does it send your body's metabolism into "famine" mode where it preserves the fat and draws from your muscles, but when you start eating once again (and you will) it start storing more fat to compensate.
Better to ajust your eating, spread 4-6 smaller healthier meals out throughout the day, which causes your metabolism to go into "feast" mode, where it will burn fat rather than store it. Of course doing some regular exercise speeds up this process immensely.
Not eating is generally not a good idea.
