I have worked as host and waiter (worst job of my life!)
I usually tip aprox 20% but if they fuck my shit up really bad then they get nothing.
Example, I ask for food a certain way, they bring the wrong thing. Ok, mistakes happen and it was probably the chef. So no problem there. So they go back and bring the wrong thing again, now then its the waiter/waitresses fault since they should double check that shit at that point. I would only give them like 5% at this point if everything else was good, otherwise nothing.
Or say they disappear halfway through the meal to the point I need to call another waiter over to ask for another drink or something. I do not want to sit there with an empty alcohol glass for 20 minutes. Depending on how bad it is would be how much i tip.
Or one place the waitress was talking to a friend, for like 15 minutes and I kept asking for a new waitress to come take our order and they were like, "its her table" so since she didnt bother to come serve us for 15 minutes I left no tip.
I think those are reasonable situations to cut back or give no tip. Like I said, I was a waiter and rudeness and not caring whatsoever about the people you are serving is not how you get tips, so that shouldn't surprise them.
