I typed a long rant based on my experience, waiting tables changed my view of the world in a pretty negative way, I honestly believed we were all equal till I started waiting tables. After proofreading and filtering for racism this is what's left:
Tipping is a cultural thing and it only seems to work well for white middle class Americans.
If it wasn't for mandatory gratuities, waiters would refuse to serve large parties.
