Torrents are only torrents. They only do one thing. However, the legal system learns with each victory and mistake. The only things torrents have on their side are laws that have not caught up to them, yet.
If one is evolving and one can not, how do you think it will eventually end?
It is a no brainer really. Doesn't matter if you are against or for piracy. Every failure and victory the legal system makes will only make them better for the next round. While a torrent is still just a torrent. Eventually the laws will catch up to them and deal with them accordingly. The users are useless. Doesn't matter how many more millions start using them due to press. Just ask any Megaupload user how it worked out for them.
