They are still happening
Sites with some of the worst x-sales I've ever seen, hidden within the T&C with no possibility to uncheck are buying ad spots on thousands of tubes at the moment.

At least you know exactly how much you are going to pay before you submit your credit card details. Airlines do the same. You can't compare that with the pure scam STILL happening in porn where people click a submit button thinking they will be charged $29.99 and end up billed over 200 bucks.
