Even if the crib is in the parent's room, the baby will take naps. During that time you'll need to be doing other things like laundry, dishes, making dinner, taking a shower, etc.

The First Alert monitor would go to a white screen once in a while. It was rare but it happened.
The Motorola has never crashed. The only real bitch I have with it is the night video quality. We have a little nightlight in the corner of the room and if we forget to turn that on the video quality really sucks. It doesn't add that much light to the room but it's enough to make a difference.
Audio might be a little wonky too. If a loud car goes by, I hear the car really loud through the monitor even though the car was not really all that loud without the monitor. Some sounds are disproportionately loud.
