CZ is neither dark nor dangerous at all, just stay away from the gypsy ghettos in Teplice or Decin
Renting flats in Prague can be cheap as well but yeah, if you want to rent something around Wenzlaws Square it becomes expensive. Brno is a lot cheaper.
And most models (if they dont go by car) take the bus from Prague to Brno (or the other way). It costs like 6-8 Euro in a modern bus with movies and WIFI and takes about 2.5h for 200km. and whoever says that road is in a bad condition has never been to Poland or other more eastern countries. it's the right lane for about 60-70 km in both directions thats a bit fucked up.
to me it sounds almost like they don't want you here and make up horrible stories for you
