Isn't LOUIE a comedy? FX makes great comedies. ARCHER, THE LEAGUE, WILFRED (This old thing called TESTIES that I can't believe failed). Problem to me is that their dramas have become unintentional comedies (again in my opinion). But whatever works for them. They survive on selling ad space and regular broadcast television (non cable) is just filler space between sales pitches.
That's why it's even more amazing when things like BREAKING BAD and MAD MEN actually get made on stations with commercial advertising. This is AMC though.
Example on FX: (this keeps making me laugh over and over just thinking about it and this is just one of the things on this series) On SONS OF ANARCHY, the two broads (mother and girlfriend) are killing themselves all season to hide some papers or notes or some fucking thing from the punk in line to take over SAMCRO. Then in the last show (or the one before it) when he reads it, he literally says out loud in dialogue "What does this mean?" Now that is just fucking too funny to me.
Not to mention it took him like 3 seasons to finish his father's novel and this is supposed to be a kid who's going to take over a criminal organization. I mean you can watch documentaries about 1%ers that should give you enough info to write more believable characters than I see on this show.
