School
If you see little kids just starting out, they run to the bus stop or school. They want to learn and read and write. But somewhere along the line it happens. Bad teacher(s). Mine were 4th & 6th grade. They didn't care about learning just discipline. Hated school after that.
I do think about 4th or 5th grade boys need a man teacher. I saw that in my son's school. The teacher they had from kindergarten (private school with all grades combined) suddenly the boys especially moved on new schools. The new schools had men & women teachers who taught different subjects.
If you can just keep that fire to learn in them, that's the most important thing. Once at a teacher-parent meeting I said my son won't read. he replied, "I just don't like to read for fun. Obviously I read as I'm getting straight A's, so I read the material."
