If you lay on your back and wildly flail your arms and legs around for 20 minutes until you're in a puddle of sweat -- and you do that every day -- you'll end up looking the same as if you did p90x, Insanity or Bodyrock.
What I'm saying is it doesn't matter how you're being active. As long as you do your exercise in a short, intense way to the point where you're huffing and puffing for oxygen, and you eat a semi-healthy diet -- your body will end up in the same place.
If you want to get in shape quick, my advice would be look into Tabata protocol(just go to Youtube). It's all about keeping workouts short and super-intense. Saves time and gives a better result than being in the gym for an hour.
I got in shape last summer by doing a Tabata sprint program a few times week, in addition to my normal gym time.
