So much of the biz now as an affiliate depends on being able to spot bullshit. Best advice I can give you. Personally the only pay sites still converting for me are all micro niche and smaller programs. Put up a few and then focus on the people who sell. If no one sells stop adding links and put up some new ones for others instead. Add, rinse, repeat. It usually doesn't pay to use only 2 or 3 sponsors in 2012. The odds that they will be among the good ones are slim. Put out some more feelers and find the good ones. Go by your experience not what others tell you.
