The Real Madrid star, along with the rest of the Portuguese players, was greeted by hundreds of fans at Lisbon Portela Airport. Ronaldo was captured in shot by photographers and television cameras as he smiled at his followers and gave them a thumbs-up sign.
Several fans were unsuccessful in their attempts to get the player?s autograph and may have been further disappointed when Ronaldo and his teammates didn?t speak to the press. The players were met by Portuguese Minister of Parliamentary Affairs - Miguel Relvas ? who held a touching welcome-home ceremony on behalf of the Portuguese Government.
However, while the Portugal team ? who was eliminated from the Euros after losing to Spain on penalties - was being welcomed home, false rumours were echoing around the Ukrainian press. News spread through social networks that Ronaldo had missed his plane to Lisbon because he had gone to buy a bun in the international terminal at Donetsk airport.
