Keep in mind there are always outliers and these are just averages.
This is all due to environmental circumstances engendered over thousands of years.

It's all the same reason why history's elite intellectuals come out of areas that had long winters or at least changing seasons that warranted extended duration inside at a study.
Winter forces people to plan ahead and make choices which selectively chooses those that can adapt to that environment.

This isn't me being mean or bitter towards blacks, it's just fact. Michael Johnson is right in his assumption (it's just not some athletic gene, but a whole assortment of different dna sequences).

If we all lived on a planet with 2x gravity, over some generations are bodies would probably get stockier, and undoubtedly stronger by default. Our muscles may even take on a denser structure and become more efficient due to the environment.

If this could all be redone by having a control group of whites live in Africa for thousands of years and only somehow breeding with only each other (kept from inbreeding though) and slowly they'd lean out due to the hot environment to dissipate the heat and it'd be favored for those whose skin was more brown to eventually completely black to provide a natural SPF toward the hot Sahara sun.
I recognize that this is a widely held assumption, but for a specific example of why this might not be true, look at medieval England:

All they did was longbow. Think Robin Hood.

Every village green was devoted to archery. An archer got all the girls. An archer got gold. A man could become something if he could shoot. Put our football, basketball, baseball, NASCAR, and Europe and Brasil's Futbol together, and you have some idea. The best archers were gods. Those stories about Robin Hood exist to this day. Name me one football player that will last more than a century.

Dude, those were little, sick peasants who lived on shitty bread and didn't have two pennies to rub together, but if they wanted to, they'd put an arrow between your eyes at 100 yards. Every single one. Every man HAD to shoot. If you didn't, you were an outcast. Children played at longbow and old men told tales.

In a few hundred years, this small population developed techniques that let them pull bows that we cannot pull today as in NO ONE. And we don't even understand how they did it. The average village had guys who could shoot farther than ANYONE in the world today, even with all our science and materials.

Agincourt shows what happened when you fucked with them. They killed 25000 french knights in FULL PLATE.

These guys ate, dreamed, lived the longbow. It was the only way out. Remind you of anyone? There were no genetics involved. Just focus and work from baby to grave.
