The hotline will ask two things of people. The name of the site and the type of infringing material. These two things will go into a database and as patterns emerge we will prioritize the sites with those names. It's going to be very simple for the caller. We don't need urls we just need site names. We dont need file names, we just need to know what the type of material is: ie: is it pirate software, child porn, pirate movies and so on.
It may have some psychological effect, but this is not it's sole aim. It's aim is to provide us with a clearinghouse of patterns.
This whole campaign has been pricey, in fact the cost so far has been considerable because of the methodical way in which research and communications is being conducted. This isn't about money, it's about achieving a goal. The goal being to tear apart the illegal file locker industry.
