You do not have to install Wowza. I used it for a long time without. However, I chose to do so a while back to enable streaming of H.264 embeds. It saves on bandwidth also.

I've seen MB mentioned lots though whenever CMS is discussed and would be interested in seeing any paysites which are using it.
