Here's how I look at things:
The most interesting part of this thread is that it focuses on everything that is negative about FB.
What it reveals is that the reason why these attention whores continue their antics is because their antics are exactly what EVERYONE notices.
I have over 4000 friends on FB, mostly because of one of my lesser known mainstream sites. As a result, I see it all - the ignorant, the idle, the attention-seeking, the overly religious and the sappy all the way to the other side of the spectrum.
I don't judge those who may be less intellectually or socially inclined publicly, mostly because I do realize that they have a role to play in the society that they live in.
Not everyone is going to be focused, businesslike and respectful on the internet. That is fact.
So instead of bitching about it, simply ignore or perhaps lead by example. Sometimes persons keep up a certain kind of behavior simply because that is the only way that they get anyone to pay attention to them or because no one has ever shown/told them what the alternative is.
Think about it.
