Phelps has a few genetic defects.
Marfan's Syndrome, giving him long limbs and fingers.
A connective tissue disorder, allowing him flexibility that other swimmers don't have.
His body produces less Lactic Acid than other athletes, making his recovery times much better. This means more working out and most importantly, the ability to swim two races in the same hour as if the first race never even happened.
