Not actually a serial killer
Unlike the famous Kansas City serial killer, Bob Berdella, my vote is for Lowell Lee Andrews. Not a serial killer, but killed his sister and parents in an attempt to inherit his parents farm, then dreaming of moving to Chicago to become a gangster.
He became infamous in the book "In Cold Blood," as being hung before Smith & Hitchcock. Being very fat, the rope didn't snap. Guards had to pull on his legs to strangle him. Took almost an hour to die.
Reason he's my favorite, is a week before the murders, he was in his Eagle Scout uniform at the American Royal Parade, keeping people on the sidewalk. He saw my stepfather, who attended the same church. They got to talking and he saw I was so young and short, I couldn't see the parade, so he boosted me on his shoulders to see the parade. It was acts like this that when arrested for murder gave him the headline name of "The Nicest Boy In Kansas."
