As we all know, marketing an adult or dating site to the mainstream media is not the easiest thing in the world. A lot of the mainstream advertisers/social networks do not allow links or advertising to sites that are rated 18+ (ie Google and FB)

Recently I explored marketing my adult classifieds site on Twitter and I wanted to share the experience, as it has increased our page views from around 30 000 a day to over 50 000 a day, and I haven't spent a penny.

This is how it works:

1) Register a twitter account and include your website address in your bio.
2) Search for a Twitter account that is run by an activist who is opposed to what your website is offering (ie if it is a porn site, find someone who is against porn, if it is a extramarital dating site find someone who is for manogamy etc etc). They need to have a decent number of followers for this to work. It's even better if they are a journalist for an online site or have their own popular blog as this allows them easy access to write an article vilifying your site/twitter account
3) Ask them to retweet a link to your site, or to comment on your site
4) They will no doubt get back to you telling you how much they hate your site, how you are sexist etc etc. This is exactly what you want. If they don't respond keep sending messages asking for their opinion of your site until they do.
5) When they do respond negatively make some derogatory comments about their views and try to get their followers incensed. The more replies you get from their followers the better. The more retweets you get from their followers the better.
6) Now start making derogatory remarks to their followers who have replied to you. Someone who follows them (or the main acc holder) should hopefully work for an online site / blog and this furore will hopefully get them to write about it.
7) If they do write about it broadcast the URL of the article to everyone you know, spread it on twitter/fb/your blog/your site. The more people that read it the better.

What you are looking for is one of these activists to do a story regarding your site. Yes it is going to have a negative outlook, but as an adult webmaster do you really care? All I care about is the fact that more people will be visiting the site.

Also many people will make negative comments regarding the site, however when they get home that night they will visit the site to see what it's all about. BOOM you got another subscriber.

We were very lucky in that someone at a tech website was following the person we contacted initially, and both them and the person we contacted wrote an article about it.

If you value your brand image then DO NOT use this method as it will damage your reputation. However if you are simply interested in getting more people to your site then go ahead and follow the plan.

Sorry if this seems very simplistic but it worked for me and I wanted to share it with everyone.
