A progressive tax is totally sensible. I WANT to pay higher taxes on my 250,000th dollar than I do on my $40,000th. Give me the lower tax rate when I really NEED it, I'll make it up by paying more when I really can SPARE it.

I personally think a flat tax is completely fair. I never quite understood how anybody could justify forcing people to pay more of a percentage of their income than someone else does.
If you made 1 million dollars this year and paid a 15% flat tax...you would be writing the federal govt. a check for $150,000
That's WAY more than a guy making $50,000 is going to pay in.
Yet you wouldn't be getting any more federal public services than the guy making $50,000 and paying $7,500
It doesn't seem fair to me at all. But that is just my opinion.
Also keep in mind that if you made a million dollars a year...you very likely would purchase many more things because of your money. So you would not only be helping the economy...but also paying a LOT more state sales tax than the guy making $50,000
You would also very likely own a fairly expensive home and end up paying a LOT more in property taxes.
You know what I'm saying.
So yeah...a federal flat tax seems a lot more fair to me. And I'd bet that "rich" guys would actually end up paying a lot more in taxes than they currently do with all the deductions they can take.
The rich already pay the overwhelming majority of taxes in this country. And look what the feds do with it.
Wars. Funneling money back to their cronies. And a lot of our hard earned money is going to pay the principle on the debt they have incurred.
I think instead of trying to take other people's money...we should get our govt. under control first.
