So can you consider a gym membership part of your business expenses?

Can a gym membership count as a business expense. Granted we spend most of our time sitting our asses in front of a computer, and need some way to exercise and keep our business medical bills lower by keeping an active lifestyle? Don't other business have that sort of thing for employees? Gym memberships, etc...

Seriously though, can this be deducted as a business expense??

I wouldnt if I were you unless you particularly like raising audit flags.

Now of course some will say sure go for it. They also will deduct the family pet as business security and other crazy shit. Seems nice to save a few bucks each year but once you have gone though an audit that 300.00 saved isnt worth it.

One exception would be if you are talent, then I could see the possibility of a gym membership.

As for home gym equipment, again it would be near impossible to show that its not for personal usage, well unless it is in your office that is not part of your home.

If you are modeling, performing or producing, absolutely. Ask your accountant for sure.

I wrote my gym membership and my personal trainer off for years, and it even passed an audit

But I was "talent" as well as owner of the company.

              I would ask your accountant.

The way I see it... assuming that you have a corporation... your corporation is a business that has employees. All corporations offer extra benefits to their employees. You are an employee of your corporation.

Now how much of that you can write off would be up to what your accountant thinks...

It might not be a smart writeoff, but in some instances, a health insurance company will pass along a break as your health saves them $$ in the long run.

You could in theory claim that you recruit models from there, but good luck with that...

Perhaps, but it would increase the risk of an audit. Is it worth it?

That's the way you see it. But there's a big difference between the way you see it and the way it looks on paper.

Why don't you try something else if you want to increase business expense? How much $100 a month gym membership is gonna save you?
