I think the smart play is to spend something like $250-400 in the first month expanding your network by building more sites through adding help. Make notes, and the next month try to improve on your results.

By the time month 2 is finished you'll have a pretty good idea if you like where things are headed or not. You'll have 2 months of experience at whatever you tried, and will still have $2000 to spend to either ramp up or cut losses.
