History Redux???
Just got to thinking based on current events.... Not a hack on Obama BTW, just historical thoughts.
1970's - Shah of Iran (Pahlavi) is a western leaning leader with a not so good civil-rights record. Pres. Carter is not a big fan. US/Carter assists in the bloodless overthrow of the Iranian gov't and the exiled Khomeni moves into Iranian leadership when Pahlavi comes to the US for cancer treatment. Khomeni and friends turn out to be the beginning of what we see now as the ideologically/religiously based form of gov't currently operating in Iran.
1979 - Iranian "students" take over the US Embassy in Tehran and hold hostages for 444 days.
Yesterday's Embassy event in Egypt had me wondering if maybe history is walking along similar paths? Mubarak certainly wasn't what anyone would call a "friend" to his people, but he was western leaning.
Is Egypt, Libya, etc...... Are they all on the path to what happened with Iran?
Just a thought. Obviously, who the hell knows.
