Posting pics on facebook makes them legaly public property and so the pics could end up on other sites.
I would never dream of posting pics of my kids (if i had any) on such public sites. If I wasnted my familty or friends to see the pics, I would email them.
It just seems so odd.
I am surprised facebook even allows it or at least does not warn parents that posting pics may not be a great idea.

Because you don't have kids, I'll cut you some slack. And I'll explain it to you.
The fear isn't someone looking at your kid's pictures on FB. The fear is someone contacting your child on FB. You see, kids drive social networking. My kid is in 7th grade and every one of her friends except for one has a FB account. (And that one kid is so protected and so sheltered and so timid that she's afraid of her own shadow. Seriously.) This is how kids communicate - social networking.
