Yes, I know this subject comes up often, but things also change often, and my question is a little bit different.
Some of you may have noticed relatively recently some paysites gone from linking their preview thumbs to images to linking the preview thumbs to their Join page:

Have any of you tried this and noticed positive results?
I recently experimented with this style, for example with this new blog
here because my conversions are down and I'm trying everything I can think of, but it's too early to say if it is beneficial.
If not, what seems to be working best for you as of September 2012?
