Everything's ready and it's time to shoot. For the shooter this started weeks or months earlier.

If he's a newbie or learning, he's worked out where his level is. Chances of him competing in styles dominated by those who have been doing it for years are long. Odds on he's starting in an amateur style. Let's look at that.

Amateur to me has always meant the model not the shooter. All this needs is a model who looks like she's having fun, enjoying herself and not there to earn money and fuck off home. Which is why it's essential you meet the model first.

So preparation for a shoot. Always found shooting a set before the video helps bond model and shooter, this is team work so even if it's only 50 frames good idea to get to know 50 different shots. Easy enough, all you need to do is study magazines and see the poses they like, or study a set of a magazine shooter. Also think of the video and the positions you want the models in and the angles you will shoot them from. Models are to look like amateur, shooters are not. Will explain that in depth further on. Store the shots in a laptop in the order you will shoot. Clothed, stripping, nude. Any shooter worth his salt should be able to do 50 different shots, in fact 200 different ones isn't a problem. Now study the running order and get it fixed into your head.

Now study video, look at lots of different shooters and study angles, positions of models and running order. Make a story board and again store it in your laptop and learn it.

Then decide how you will bring your style and personality into the work. This only you can do as it will change for every shooter, it's about you being you and even though you will be copying others. You're blending the mix your way.

OK, now for why you need to prepare like this.

Even if you're shooting Ex Gf you need the model to shine, look natural as if she's doing it for her boyfriend. Expecting her to perform lie that for a stranger who doesn't have a clue what to do is hoping for too much. you need to know what she will do, how you will shoot her and above all when you tell her to "Do her own thing." Know what that is, because some girls won't have a clue and frankly some won't care. They are there to get money at the end of the shoot, you have to go sell the work.

Just flirt, flatter and shoot her as she is, let her personality come out. AND get her working with you. If you know what to do to the extent that it's automatic, the girl becomes the focus of your attention. So even with Ex Gf you can work on her looking like someone who cares for you and even wants to screw you.

This is essential and you will build it over time. every good shooter I've know had lots of personality. I was cheeky and the girls always felt like I would love to jump into bed with them yet wouldn't. A "Dirty young/middle age/old man who could control himself.". There were many others who adopted the same or similar personality, some with charm, craziness, lust and me with my cheeky/joking approach. Let a girl know you think she's desirable, yet you can control your feelings perfectly and you have the mix with most.

Timid ones need confidence building, shy ones need coaxing, crazy one need calming, horny ones need to wit till the end, beautiful ones need you to be blasé and pig headed ones need to be shown the door. This is the art of a pornographer and the toughest thing to get right.

Don't expect to pick up a camera and point it to make good porn.

The above can be adapted to solo, GG and BG.
