Seriously Paul, just shut the fuck up. He's essentially talking about getting a green handle here when you hit 10,000... or reward points on a credit card except you get them for rating a video after you've jerked off to it. It's got nothing to do with games except that like a high post count you can think of it in terms of a score.. or like a coupon from a cafe with nine stamps on it, you're more likely to go back to that cafe to get your tenth coffee free than a competitor cafe.
Whether it's an epenis reward or actual monetary value, it's a marginal thing to implement to increase retention by 5% or whatever. It's not a magic bullet.. It's what you do *after* you've already made sure you've got good content and an easy to use site etc and no one is saying otherwise..
I think it's especially good for more generic sites like tube sites where a lot of the content isn't going to be remarkably different from your competitor's copies of the same flv feeds - you make sure there is a store of "effort" the user has left on your site they subconsciously don't want to "lose" by going to your competitor even if it's just the shiny badge on their profile that says they're in the "top 100" users of the site and the "67th biggest wanker" on the site because they've watched the 67th most videos whilst jerking off. No "games".. just porn and a methodology to reward people in a small way for using your site in the way it was intended.
