EMD's are highy relative but not necessarily valuable sources of content. I know of a ton of EMD's that are just banner farms. And mainstreamers crank out longtail EMD's like no tomorrow.. all stuffed with spun content, etc.
I'm personally leaning toward the opinion that this isn't an EMD penalty as much as it's just a removal of the natural boost that used to be given to them.
Strong EMD's are being left alone while weak ones are losing their rank.. it would make sense that this is because the bonus-for-being-relative thing was yanked.
