Your choices should include "organized" religion. People can and should be free to explore what and where they want. When it comes to a persons quest for God, I think that organized religion actually just gets in their way. "Hey, you! Stop looking for God! We've got him right here, come on in! Oh and hey give us money and we'll put in a good word for you because we're tight with the G-man".
Your cost of money (greed, exploitation, entitlement, etc) can also be easily applied to religion.
The truth is, both are necessary. Money allows trade, and religion brings peace of mind & inspiration to many (to say nothing of art, music, and general good will). People just need to stop closing their eyes, thats all.
