I don't blame affiliates for grabbing what was being given to them on a plate. I blame sponsors. The reasons are obvious and if you stand back and look at it, you'll see.
Porn traffic
IS easy to get. What's hard is getting them to buy something. There's a thread on page 1 or 2 of GFY now that's guessing the traffic of the top tubes. I forget the total number but think it was 200 million. Add what everyone else has and it's what half a billion, even quarter of a billion is a lot of traffic.
Now I hear you reply "It's shit traffic."
Why? Is my retort.
"They only want free porn." You reply.
So we have nailed down the problem. Why is there too much free porn, I hear someone cry from the cheap seats. Because sponsors thought the only way to get people to buy was to give it away.
Then they made it too easy for affiliates to prosper, so gave them more free porn, more tools, more money. To put up more reasons not to buy.
All it took to bring down the house of cards was cheap BW and we had a mighty wind.
Add to this too many affiliates, too many lousy sites, too many scammers and the problem was compounded.
Now Manwin is coming in and picking up what's left. The cancer is still growing and can't be cut out, even by them Because anyone can put up a free Tube site with 1,000 scenes and the traffic will come with a little work.
And they can cover their pages with ads and make money, until Manwin buy them out and then the next and then the next.
Imagine if we had all stayed at links only to paysites. There would be 5% of the traffic, or less, most would hit a paysite and earnings would sky rocket. That's why traffic isn't king. It can't be when less than 1-1,000 buys something.
On the evidence of the last 12 years. The question should be. would anyone let most of you run an industry, seeing what you did to this one. Because it really was simple, simpler than putting up a site.
You shot some good porn, sold it to a publisher, he packaged it and sold it to a shop. customers loved it and came back next month to buy the same title again.
Well it was easy if you could shoot good porn.
I'm writing my memoirs and plan to write a volume on the days in Czech, coming online and seeing it crumble. While so many denied it was. should be funny.
