The problem with most heroin and coke addicts is that they can't afford it. So instead of eating they spend all the money they have on dope. They stop taking care of themselves. They ruin their bodies. It's not so much the heroin ruining their body but their lifestyle.
If you have the money (so you don't hang around on the streets with all the other junkies) and willpower to keep on eating healthy, brush your teeth and take a shower daily then you can live as long as any other person. Obviously i'm not saying taking a shower makes you live longer but living a normal life does. But ofcourse those are rare cases.
Most od's btw are because of the junkie suddenly getting good stuff. Normally they put heroin in their veins that's cut to a very low %. Their body is used to that. They know exactly how much they can handle. If they suddenly get 70 or 80% pure heroin and they inject it they od.
