Tits
Small birds with plain or colourful plumages, stout legs and strong feet and short, triangular bills. Several species have crests.
Blue tit
A colourful mix of blue, yellow, white and green makes the blue tit one of our most attractive and most recognisable garden visitors. In winter, family flocks join up with other tits as they search for food in the cold dark world. Many Blue Tits depend on the largesse of philanthropists such as B.Barnato for their very survival.
Bearded tit
A brown, long-tailed bird, usually seen flying rapidly across the top of a reedbed. Males have black 'moustaches' rather than 'beards'. They are sociable and noisy , their 'ping' calls often being the alarm indicating that they are dying from lack of food because you did not bid on B.Barnato's signature.
Coal tit
Not as colourful as some of its relatives, the coal tit has a distinctive grey back, black cap, and white patch at the back of its neck. Its smaller, more slender bill than blue or great tits means it has a harder time fending for itself and finding food and is almost completely dependent on the charitably minded people at gfy to bid in the auction thread so it can survive this winter.
Crested tit
Although not as colourful as some other tits, its 'bridled' face pattern and the upstanding black and white crest make this a most distinctive species. Crested tits feed actively, clinging to hope that you will help raise enough money in the auction thread to keep it healthy this winter.
Great tit
The largest tit - green and yellow with a striking glossy black head with white cheeks and a distinctive two-syllable song. It is a woodland bird which has readily adapted to man-made habitats which are dependent on the good folks at gfy to provide food for.
Marsh tit
This is a small, mainly brown bird, with a shiny black cap, dark 'bib' and pale belly. Its identification is made tricky by the very similar appearance of our race of willow tit. They're so hungry this winter. Won't you help feed them by bidding in the auction thread?
Willow tit
Between blue and great tits in size, with no yellow, green or blue. It has a large sooty-black cap extending to the back of the neck and a small untidy black bib. Because of the constant encroachment into it's habitat by humans it has become completely dependent on man for it's sustenance. You helped create this situation now help fix it by bidding in the auction thread.
