It all depends on the sponsor you're using and may take some trial and error. If the sponsor retains well, choosing recurring would be your best bet. If the sponsor does not retain well, go with per signup.
It's difficult to know this beforehand without doing a trial or without you personally checking out the members area to know what the member gets when they signup to the site.
