That is simply not true. Just because that is more recent, it seems that way.
Reagan had a buzzsaw in Tip O'Neil to deal with. Both Senate and House were Democrat and had been for decades. Tip O'Neil was the most powerful man in Washington.
The media and the left were merciless on Reagan. He was a befuddled old man who didn't know anything and didn't actually run things in their view. It was attack after attack.
But guess what? Reagan was a LEADER and he reached out and got things done.
As for Clinton...come on get serious. That's recent enough for everyone to remember. The Republicans and the right treated him with complete disrespect and it was shameful. They IMPEACHED him for God's sake! And he had to deal with a guy by the name of Newt Gingrich who was the most powerful man in Washington and the guy who was behind the "Contract For America" that changed the House over to Republicans for the first time in modern history.
The entire country it seemed hated Clinton in 1994.
BUT...Clinton was a LEADER. And by 1995 he had stopped trying to push through "Hillary Care" and had turned around and reached out to Newt Gingrich and the Republicans. And guess what? They got things done and the country prospered.
Obama on the other hand, got a big wake up call in 2012 when the country voted the Dems out of the House and the Repubs gained a lot in the Senate.
But unlike Clinton, he decided to "double down" and he has never had the skill and finesse to reach out to the Republicans and get things done.
Excuses are good and all...but the facts are that he simply isn't a leader. Maybe he'll do better in the second term? Who knows. Or maybe he'll continue on the path he's been on and we'll be screwed even worse. I guess we'll find out.
