We were livin' just outside of Halifax (Lr. Sackville) when Hurricane Blanche hit in July/75. It snapped the oil rig loose in the harbour and sent it drifting towards one of the Halifax/Dartmouth bridges. They managed to stop it just a few hundred yards away with the tug boats.
Blanche hit just as the tide was coming in, which made things worse. The basin quickly rose and the Bedford River flowed in reverse inland...flooding out Sunnyside Mall that day.
I still remember it well.
