MP4 is great for MOST devices if wrapped in an h.264 container, you can play this format in a flash player, but covers more devices than flash itself.
You should also encode a webm format, and if you want to cover all your bases, then create an ogv format as well. The new html5 video tag will cover what you need, or a good player such as jwplayer. This isn't 1998, stop listening to dumb fucks.
